One of Glasgow's most iconic buildings has been damaged following a blaze on the morning of Friday 17 June 2011. Twelve fire engines attended the scene and roads were closed for many hours before fire fighters brought the blaze under control.

The fire broke out in the building's health suite on the ground floor. Whilst the swift actions of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue avoided more catastrophic damage, the building will remain closed for some time.

GAB Robins Major & Complex Loss Team were immediately in attendance, led by Peter Farrelly.

The Kelvin Hall was originally used for exhibitions following construction in 1905 and was later rebuilt after a fire in 1925. The building was converted to an international sports arena in 1987 and will host the 2011 Gymnastics World Cup.
